How accurate is the on-device model? +
For common North American and European plants, top-5 accuracy is 90%+ in clear lighting. Rare or visually similar species may need multiple angle photos. Cloud-based services (PictureThis) edge out on rare species but require signal.
Why not use PictureThis or Seek? +
PictureThis is $30/year and cloud-only — useless on a hike without signal. Seek by iNaturalist is free but limited offline. Plant Identifier is $19.99 lifetime and works fully offline.
Does it work for trees and weeds, not just flowers? +
Yes. The bundled model covers trees, shrubs, weeds, grasses, ferns, and houseplants in addition to flowering plants.
Will my location data leave the device? +
Only if you choose to attach GPS to a found-plant entry. Location is opt-in per identification and stored locally; nothing uploads.
